HOUSTON – An investigation is underway after a premature baby was found and later died in southeast Houston Friday, police said.
Emergency crews responded to reports of a premature baby found by a neighbor in the 1200 block of El Camino Village Drive around 1:56 a.m.
Police said a woman reported going out to her car to grab something when she found the baby in a blanket. The woman is a nurse and attempted to help the premature fetus before the arrival of emergency officials with the Houston Fire Department, investigators said.
Officers said the baby was transported by ambulance and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are investigating to determine who left the baby there and why.
