Anthony Joshua wants Dillian Whyte to beat Tyson Fury but has made it clear that doesn’t mean he likes him.
The WBC heavyweight title fight is set to take place on Saturday night at Wembley Stadium, live on talkSPORT.
And Joshua says he wants to see a new champion.
“It’s good [quality] defense against Dillian Whyte,” he told iFL TV.
“Dillian Whyte has to come see what Tyson Fury is doing and react the opposite. Maybe work the body and be conditioned to go the distance, but hopefully Dillian trains hard and doesn’t underestimate Tyson.
“Because it’s the first time he’s fighting for a title, I think he’s going to be hungry. It’s not the 10th time he’s fighting for a title and he may have a little hiccup along the way – this is his first time fighting for a title.
“I support Dillian, even though I hate him and want to crush him one of these days. Come on Dillian, I’m with you all the way,” Joshua adds with a smile.
Joshua and Whyte are now promotional stable mates with Matchroom Boxing, but they met in a moody showdown in 2015 when they were both undefeated prospects.
Whyte waited about three years to get his world title and will now get it in front of potentially 90,000 people.
Fury became the WBC champion when he beat Deontay Wilder in their second meeting in February 2020. He then beat Wilder again last October.
Prior to his final clash with Wilder, Fury had agreed to face then-WBO, IBF and WBA heavyweight champion Joshua in an undisputed title fight which was due to take place in Saudi Arabia.
Once the arbitration tribunal forced Fury to face Wilder, Joshua decided to face his mandatory challenger in a bid to keep the undisputed title fight, Oleksandr Usyk, alive.
Usyk beat Joshua last September and now AJ has a contracted rematch with Usyk which is due in July.
