But in doing so, the president shared his views on the Republican Party. The president said “virtually no Republicans” will work with Democrats, saying that sometimes “we get to seven or eight.”
“It’s not your dad’s Republican Party,” Biden said. “It’s not a joke. All you have to do is watch what happens this morning about the tape that came out.”
Biden was apparently referring to a leaked audio The New York Times first reported this week from Jan. 10, 2021, where House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-California, allegedly told Republican leaders of the House that he had “had it” with former President Trump and that he was going to recommend that the then president “resign” following the Capitol riots on January 6.

“I think it will pass, and I would recommend that you resign,” McCarthy said in the recording, explaining what he would say to Trump, according to audio released by The Times.
In the recording, the Republican leader said Trump was unlikely to listen to his suggestion and that no one can defend the then-president’s actions on Jan. 6 “and no one should defend him.”
The Times report also said McCarthy called Trump’s actions on Jan. 6 “atrocious and utterly untrue” during a call with Republicans on Jan. 8, and allegedly floated the idea of having some lawmakers banned from social networks.
McCarthy refuted the Times report as “totally false and misguided”.
Biden, reacting to audio on Friday, said “it’s a MAGA party now.”
“It’s, you know, you have the Texas senator and others,” Biden said, though it’s unclear if he was referring to Texas senator Ted Cruz or Texas senator John Cornyn. . “These guys are a different breed of cat.”
“And the people who know better are afraid to do the right thing because they know they’re going to be primary,” the president said, noting that “up to six” congressional Republicans came to him and said, “Joe, I want to be with you on so and so, but I can’t. I’ll be primary. I’ll lose my race.
“So, folks, we’re going – that’s going to start to change,” Biden said.
“They’re talking about the split within the Democratic Party — there’s hardly any split within the Democratic Party,” Biden said, adding that “48 of my fellow Senate Democrats vote with me 94% of the time.” .
