Buffalo Shooting Tests Internet Antiterrorism Agreement


WELLINGTON, New Zealand—The live broadcast of a supermarket shooting in Buffalo, New York, demonstrated the strengths and limitations of a global agreement to counter the spread of terrorist content online .

More than 50 countries, including the United States, Germany and India, as well as Internet companies such as Facebook owner Meta Platforms Inc., parent company of Google Alphabet and Twitter have signed up to support the Christchurch Appeal since its inception in 2019 after a white supremacist murdered 51 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, and broadcast the attacks live on Facebook.
