CHICAGO (CBS) – The Chicago Transit Authority said Thursday it is regularly deploying security guards — with a goal of 300 guards per day systemwide.
Currently, around 200 to 220 are deployed to the system per day, the CTA said. The rest will be deployed as soon as possible once they have received their full training – including de-escalation and conflict resolution.
Security guards are on duty seven days a week – instead of five.
The CTA said the date when the deployment will be completed has not yet been determined.
“Crime on the CTA has been a serious concern in Chicago for the past few months, and the CTA, Chicago Police and the Mayor’s office have had little to no response to our questions about it thus far.
Officials announced an increase in unarmed security guards on the CTA last month.
