Erik ten Hag: Manchester United appoint Ajax boss as new manager | Soccer News


Manchester United have appointed Ajax boss Erik ten Hag as their new manager, replacing interim Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season.

Sky Sports News reported on March 31 that Ten Hag was in pole position to land the job over Mauricio Pochettino, with sources close to the manager and Ajax revealing the fee was less than £2million.

The 52-year-old has signed a three-year contract with an option for a further 12 months. He told United’s website: “It is a great honor to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am extremely excited about the challenge ahead of me.

“I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team that can deliver the success it deserves.

“It will be difficult to leave Ajax after these incredible years, and I can assure our fans of my full commitment and focus to see this season through before moving to Manchester United.”

John Murtough, United’s Director of Football, added: “Over the past four years at Ajax, Erik has proven to be one of the most exciting and successful managers in Europe, renowned for football. attractive and offensive of his team and his commitment to youth.

“During our conversations with Erik prior to this appointment, we were deeply impressed with his long-term vision to bring Manchester United back to the level we want to compete at, and his drive and determination to get there.

“We wish Erik well as he focuses on a successful end to the season at Ajax and we look forward to welcoming him to Manchester United this summer.”
