French election results to come today. Electoral turnout lower than in 2017

With Macron’s poll at 55.5%, the market far outpaced the French election, but crazier things happened than a reversal of Le Pen.

The Home Office said turnout was 63.23% at 5:00 p.m. CET, down from 65.3%. If Macron’s voters stay home, she has a chance.

Another chilling statistic comes from France’s overseas colonies. They voted yesterday and the results are in.

Macron largely underperformed as he did in 2017:

  • Guadeloupe: 30% against 75%
  • Martinique: 39% against 77%
  • French Guiana: 39% versus 65%

Now I suspect there are local factors related to severe lockdowns during the pandemic, but this is a huge spread.
