NEW YORK — The New York City medical examiner’s office on Friday determined that businesswoman Ivana Trump, the ex-wife of former President Donald Trump, died Thursday of blunt force trauma from an apparent fall, according to multiple reports.
The former president said Thursday in a statement on Truth Social, the social media site he founded last year, that Ivana Trump died at her home in New York City.
“She was a wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman, who led a great and inspirational life,” Donald Trump wrote. “Rest In Peace, Ivana!”
Unidentified law enforcement officials earlier told The New York Times that authorities were investigating whether Ivana Trump might have fallen down the stairs of her townhouse on the Upper East Side. An official told NBC News that the 73-year-old was found on a spiral staircase.
In a statement obtained by the Daily Beast and ABC News, officials with the medical examiner’s office said they determined that Ivana Trump died from “blunt impact injuries of the torso” and ruled her death an accident.
Zach Erdem, a friend of Ivana Trump’s, told the New York Post earlier Friday that the 73-year-old was having trouble walking in recent weeks. He said she declined to go to a doctor.
“She was going to come (to the Hamptons) two weeks ago, but she was feeling bad,” he said, according to the Post. “She said she was having pain in her leg. … She couldn’t get out of the house.”
Donald and Ivana Trump became a well-known New York power couple after they were married in 1977. In 1992, they divorced following highly publicized and contentious proceedings. The pair later returned to friendly terms.
The couple shared three children: Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric. Ivana Trump is survived by her mother, her children and 10 grandchildren.
