Joe Rogan tells Mike Tyson why he wants to see Kamaru Usman vs. Canelo Alvarez and Francis Ngannou vs. Tyson Fury

Joe Rogan told Mike Tyson why he wants to see UFC champions Kamaru Usman and Francis Ngannou get into boxing for fights with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Tyson Fury.

The longtime UFC commentator and popular podcaster doesn’t necessarily think MMA fighters stand a chance, but says he’d be happy to see Usman and Ngannou earn monster paydays.

Francis Ngannou and Kamaru Usman show off their UFC titles

“I hope they let him (Francis Ngannou) do it, the same way they let Conor (McGregor) do it. Do that payday. Same with (Kamaru) Usman fighting Canelo , said Rogan on the Hotboxin’ podcast with Mike Tyson.

“I would like to see him fight Canelo, really. Not because I think he’s a favorite in a boxing match against one of the greatest boxers of all time, but I want to see him get a big payday.

“In the same way that I would like to see [Francis] Ngannou fights Tyson Fury. It’s a way to make a lot of money, and I don’t think it hurts his potential as a UFC fighter.

Rogan believes that in addition to earning big bucks in boxing, Usman will also get the chance to improve his punching skills by going through a boxing camp and sharing the ring with one of the greatest fighters of all time. .

“I think it would be invaluable experience for him, as a champion, if he had that fight and then came back to MMA,” Rogan said.

“I think he would probably be even better as a striker if he comes out relatively unscathed, even if he loses. He’s going to feel pain. It’s not the same sport, but it’s is a guy who knows how to win.

Usman has been calling for a fight with Canelo since defending his UFC welterweight title for the fifth time by defeating Colby Covington via unanimous decision in November 2021.

The Mexican boxing superstar has mostly dismissed talk of a crossover fight with Usman, and it looks like ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is now set to put his title on the line against Leon Edwards later this year.

Ngannou is the current heavyweight champion and has also spoken about his penchant for competing in a boxing bout in the past.

Despite being the UFC heavyweight champion, Ngannou looks set to leave the promotion after completing the final fight of his current contract earlier this year in a decision win over Ciryl Gane at the UFC 270.

Ngannou is tied to the MMA leader for three more fights or a year – whichever comes first – due to a championship clause in his contract. However, the 35-year-old recently underwent knee surgery which is expected to keep him out until the end of 2022.

The Cameroonian knockout artist has expressed his desire to cross the boxing world to test himself against Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua, and those big fights could well take place in 2023.
