Johnny Depp asked about previous texts during cross-examination

Under cross-examination by Heard’s attorney, Ben Rottenborn, on Thursday morning, evidence was presented of Depp’s text messages to some of his friends, including Marilyn Manson and actor Paul Bettany, which referred to his drinking. drugs during the time he was in a relationship with Heard. . Other posts included references to violence towards Heard.

Before some of the exchanges were read out in court, Depp said he “wasn’t proud of any of the language” he used in the text messages.

Recordings of Depp threatening to self-harm have also been released. The jury will return on Monday, when cross-examination will continue.

Depp is suing Heard for $50 million over a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which she wrote about her experience with domestic violence. She didn’t name Depp in the piece, but he claims it cost him a lucrative film job in Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.

“I would be a complete fool not to think there was an effect on my career based on what Ms. Heard said, whether they mentioned my name or not,” Depp said Wednesday.

In 2016, Heard alleged that Depp bruised his face after throwing a phone at him. Depp has denied the allegation and has not been charged with any crime.

Depp acknowledged in his testimony this week that he and Heard had had arguments during their relationship, but said: “I myself never got to the point of hitting Ms Heard in any way and I never hit a woman in my life.”

He testified Wednesday that his finger was cut by broken glass after Heard allegedly threw a bottle of vodka at him during an argument in 2015.

Heard denied this claim.

Late in Wednesday’s session, evidence was presented by Rottenborn to suggest that Disney made the decision to remove Depp from “Pirates” before Heard’s 2018 article.

Heard has yet to take a position.

The former couple married in 2015 and divorced in 2016.
