CHICAGO (SCS) — A Chicago man has been charged with a series of machete robberies in Chicago’s northwest neighborhood.
Andre Gonzalez, 35, was charged with four counts of armed robbery.
Police said Gonzalez was linked to at least eight armed robberies involving a machete in northwest neighborhoods.
Gonzalez has previous convictions for five felonies, including attempted robbery, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a controlled object.
He is due to appear in bond court on Wednesday.
The attacks took place in Irving Park, Avondale and Logan Square.
In each incident, the attacker approached the victim with a machete and demanded his personal belongings. The offender would then flee in a 4-door sedan driven by a second offender.

Block 3000 of North Christiana Avenue on May 27 at 7:58 p.m.
· Block 3200 of North Monticello Avenue on May 30 at 11:45 p.m.

CBS 2’s Charlie De Mar spoke exclusively to one woman – who said she thought she was going to die when she saw the size of the machete fired at her. She complied with the thief’s demands and was unharmed – but the randomness of the attacks is a concern for those on the northwest side.
