Mohamed Salah has revealed his future is far from certain – but former England winger Trevor Sinclair believes Liverpool are in the driving seat in their new contract negotiations.
The Reds striker says he ‘doesn’t know’ whether he will be able to agree a new deal at Anfield, with his current term set to expire in June 2023.
Speaking to Four Four Two, Salah said: “I don’t know, I have a year left. I think the fans know what I want, but in the contract it’s not about money.
“So, I don’t know, I can’t tell you exactly. I have a year left and the fans know what I want.
When asked if he intended to stay at Liverpool, the 29-year-old replied: “Yeah. This club means a lot to me – I enjoyed my football here more than anywhere else, I gave my all to the club and everyone saw it.
“I’ve had a lot of amazing moments here, winning trophies, individual goals, individual trophies. It’s like a family here.
With fans desperate to keep the Premier League’s top scorer this season, Sinclair suggests there’s a lot at stake for Salah too.
“There’s nowhere to go, it’s better,” the ex-Man City star told talkSPORT Breakfast.
“He is at one of the best clubs in the world. The fans love him, he plays with fantastic footballers.
“I don’t think there’s a better option for him – and I think that’s where Liverpool are playing a bit strong.
“They know there aren’t many better options for him.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Ray Parlor suggests the length of his new contract could be the sticking point, with Liverpool possibly reluctant to agree a long-term deal with a player nearing 30.
“I think it’s due to the length of the contract – he turns 30 in June,” Parlor added.
“Maybe he wants a four or five year contract.
“It can’t be because of bonuses and stuff like that, with the money he’s going to get anyway.
“I think that’s the length of it. Liverpool would probably give him a three-year contract and he wants four or five.
