Norwich face an unmissable clash in their unlikely bid to beat the drop this season when they host Newcastle on Saturday.

The Canaries are bottom of the Premier League table, but their recent win over Burnley proved they haven’t given up yet.

Dean Smith’s side are nine points from safety with six games left and know nothing three-pointers will do this weekend.

Norwich can be backed by their recent decent record against Newcastle after going unbeaten against them in their last four Premier League meetings.

These two drew 1-1 in the reverse game in November, with Teemu Pukki canceling out Callum Wilson’s opening penalty.

However, the Toon are on the rise after their terrible start to the season and are now safe from relegation.

They picked up their third win on the rebound by beating Crystal Palace last time out.

This Premier League clash will take place on Saturday, April 23.

talkSPORT 2 will have exclusive coverage from Carrow Road with a scheduled kick-off at 3pm.

Dan Windle will be your presenter while commentary will come from Joe Shennan and former Arsenal winger Perry Groves.

Norwich v Newcastle: team news

Norwich midfielder Kenny McLean is fit despite a broken toe while Pierre Lees-Melou is also available.

Brandon Williams was inedible to face Manchester United last time out but will return.

Lukas Rupp and Josh Sargent have been ruled out.

Newcastle have no new issues to contend with but will likely freshen things up after their win over Palace.

Isaac Hayden, Ryan Fraser, Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Jamal Lewis remain on the sidelines.

Norwich v Newcastle: What was said?

Norwich head coach Dean Smith: “Every game in the Premier League is tough, but we’re in a must-win mentality.

“With the position we’re in, we can’t look at any other results until we have results ourselves, so we have to do everything we can to try and win on Saturday.

“We’re just going to keep fighting, we’ve shown that in the last two games against Burnley at home and then at Manchester United last week.

“We have to eliminate individual errors in the last six games, but as a collective I think the group is in a good place.

“We still believe there is a chance to stay in the league and we have to give it our all.”

Norwich v Newcastle: Match Stats

  • With his goal against Manchester United last time out, Teemu Pukki became the first Norwich player to score 10+ goals in more than one Premier League season (11 in 2019-20, 10 this season). • Norwich have had four Premier League hat-tricks against them this season, those scored by Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling, Ivan Toney and Cristiano Ronaldo. No team has ever conceded five hat-tricks in a single Premier League campaign before.
  • Norwich have scored twice in their last two Premier League games, beating Burnley 2-0 and losing 3-2 to Manchester United. The Canaries haven’t scored at least twice in three consecutive Premier League games since May/August 2013.
