Ryder Cup captain Henrik Stenson is trying to strike a balance between playing and planning as he prepares to make just his second appearance in Europe this season.
The 46-year-old finished 34th at the Porsche European Open in Germany last week, having made nine previous appearances in the United States, where he missed the cut in four tournaments and withdrew from another due of an injury.
This week, the Swede and her compatriot Annika Sorenstam are co-hosting the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed event at Halmstad Golf Club and Stenson hopes to get a boost playing at home to clear his mind for the event of the year next in Rome.
“It’s been pretty busy, a lot of planning, we have the great Ryder Cup Europe team and my own team around me. They’re all working hard to make sure everything gets done,” he said.
“There are a lot of processes and we’re doing well with a lot of them, so it’s busy, busy.
“I’ve been working on the long game a lot over the last six months and I feel like there’s been a trend in the spring: I haven’t really had any results to show, but it’s ok in the right way .

“Maybe a little setback last week, it didn’t go so well in Hamburg, but we keep working and patience and hard work normally pays off.”
The inaugural staging of the event, which sees 78 men and 78 women playing the same course for a £1.5m prize – double last year’s total – had to be played behind closed doors closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was Sorenstam’s first appearance in Sweden in 13 years and she went on to win the US Senior Women’s Open which qualified her for a place at last week’s US Women’s Open.
“I’ve enjoyed the last year and a half of playing and training, so we’ll see,” the 51-year-old said.
“It’s great to be here. Obviously it’s a tough competition, some of the best European players in men and women, but I feel pretty good about my game.
“I just want to have a good time, play the best I can and be a good hostess, so we’ll see.”
