Suspect Clarence Thomas complains he’s been ‘looking over’ his shoulder since the leak

On Friday, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas complained about having to “look over” his shoulder since the controversial draft opinion that would dump Roe v. Wade.

He called the disclosure of the opinion, which was written by Judge Samuel Alito and is not yet final, “a kind of infidelity” that weakens trust in the court and caused judges to consider themselves with suspicion.

“What happened in court is extremely bad,” Thomas said in Dallas at a conference organized by the conservative American Enterprise Institute, the Manhattan Institute and the Hoover Institution.

“Look where we are, where now that trust or that belief is gone forever,” he said.

“When you lose that trust, especially in the institution I’m in, it fundamentally changes the institution. You start looking over your shoulder. It’s like some kind of infidelity that you can explain… but you can’t undo it.

The source of the leak to Politico earlier this month is not yet known.

Thomas also addressed the ongoing protests against the draft notice outside the judges’ homes. He insisted the left adopted ‘inappropriate’ tactics that conservatives would never employ, completely ignoring the violent uprising in the US Capitol last year when Donald Trump supporters tried to overthrow an election legitimate presidential. His own wife, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, worked feverishly behind the scenes to overturn the Americans’ presidential choice.

“You would never visit the homes of Supreme Court Justices when things weren’t going our way,” Thomas insisted. “We didn’t throw tantrums. It is our responsibility to always act appropriately and not give up tit for tat.

He also made the incredible claim that conservatives had “never trashed a Supreme Court nominee,” which happened last month during Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearings to become a Supreme Court justice.

He complained that valuable institutions were being undermined by the left.

“I wonder how long we’re going to have these institutions at the rate we’re undermining them, and then I wonder when they’ll be gone or destabilized, which is what we’ll have as a country. I don’t think the outlook is good if we keep losing it,” Thomas warned.

Thomas fondly recalled his days on the Supreme Court with 11 years of the same justices before Chief Justice Roberts took over in 2005. “We actually trusted each other,” Thomas said. “We may have been a dysfunctional family, but we were a family.”

If someone had said that “one line of opinion would be leaked by anyone…you’d say, ‘That’s impossible. Nobody would ever do that. … It was verboten,” he said.

Roberts ordered an investigation into the leak.

A week earlier, Thomas chastised Americans in a speech for being ‘addicted’ to the kinds of outcomes they want, and asked them to get over it and ‘live with’ decisions they don’t like. not.

He was lambasted by critics who noted that his wife was unable to “live with” the election results, and wielded the power and access she had as the wife of a justice of the Supreme Court in a fight to overturn them.
