A Bronx teenager who was freed without bond for a past felony shooting charge was charged on Saturday with the murder of an 18-year-old Bronx man, police and sources said.
Rafael Saavedra, 18, was arrested on Saturday and charged with fatally shooting 18-year-old Dellin Scarlett at East 172nd Street and Harrod Avenue in Soundview just before 3 p.m. on March 16, police said.
Scarlett was shot in the shoulder, chest, both arms, lower abdomen and both legs, cops said. He was taken to Jacobi Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
He was charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon in Scarlett’s murder.
At the time of Scarlett’s murder, Saavedra was out without bail for criminal possession of a weapon as of November 2021, according to public records. In this case, he was arrested a few blocks from the scene of Scarlett’s murder, sources said.
Following his arrest on Saturday, Saavedra was taken into custody without bail.
